First Brush, Plein Air Competition, New Harmony, IN Apr 2011

I participated in the 13th Annual First Brush, Plein Air Painting competition in New Harmony, IN.  I was hosted by a friend from art school (Kansas City Art Institute) Laura Foster-Nicholson.  Laura is a great textile artist (see her websites: lfntextiles.blogspots.com & laurfosternicholson.blogspot.com.  You can also link to her though my Followers.

I was pleasantly surprised by the level of talent in the competition.  Neat town first settled by the Harmonist Utopian community on the banks of the Wabash River.

Photo of the early morning light breaking the ornate buildings on Main St.
The inspiration for the first painting that placed in the competition.

My fist painting on Thurs.  "First Light, New Harmony"

Here's a progression my third painting on
Thursday of Mrs. Owens House.

An unfortunate image of the painting.

Friday started out as a rain out so I and the other painters were
vieing for limited cover under awnings.  Fortunatly mine was next to
an antigue store on Church St. with a display of vintage ice chests.
